The Summit State School has two classes – Years Prep to 2 and Years 3 to 6. The priorities of the curriculum are literacy, numeracy and thinking skills. The school also offers extra-curricular activities such as the Sporting Schools Program and Instrumental Music.
The students participate in a morning literacy block, middle numeracy block, and afternoon block of integrated studies. The teachers are supported by a minimum of two teacher aides on each day allowing for focused learning with smaller numbers of students.
Integrated studies can involve a number of subject areas including Science, Technology, Social Science, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Health & Physical Education and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The units of work generally involve a culminating event or product at the end, which students spend preceding weeks learning about.
Students also participate in numerous curriculum events in the wider school community of the Granite Belt which occur throughout the year. Some events include the local Eisteddfod, Maths Challenge, Lecturette competition, Multimedia competition, Spaghetti Bridge building competition and Athletics carnivals.
